Neutron and X-ray Scattering at the Frontiers and Gen Shirane

Gen Shirane's Legacy in Polarized Beam Scattering: From Neutrons to X-rays

We pay tribute to Gen Shirane's legacy by summarizing the results of x-ray magnetic scattering studies of a series of interesting materials, including chromium, NiO, MnF2, rare earth boro-carbides, cuprates, and NdNiO3 thin films. We focus on what may be learned through the use of polarization-dependent x-ray techniques, both elastic and inelastic, and compare that with the results of neutron scattering. ©2006 The Physical Society of Japan
