The uniform susceptibility and triplet excitation spectrum of the Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the one-fifth depleted square lattice are calculated using the third-order perturbation expansion method from the viewpoint of the weakly coupled meta-plaquette picture. Both the susceptibility and triplet excitation spectrum data for CaV4O9 are simultaneously explained. The origin of the relatively large spin gap in this compound is discussed. ©1998 The Physical Society of Japan

  19. In ref. 1, the spin susceptibility was obtained from the raw experimental data using the magnetic field dependence of the magnetization at 4.5 and 5 K. The contribution of impurity spins is expressed by the Brillouin function and a spin value of 1 is obtained. For impurity spins, however, the validity of the Brillouin function beyond the linear term in the magnetic field is not clear since spin values may be different for each impurity. Therefore we follow the standard procedure to obtain the spin part.
